Centos – How to upgrade Samaba from 3.0 to 3.5
There are a few things to look out for. Mainly extra packages attached to Samba like Swat.
Install Samba 3.0.33 from base packages.
yum install samba
A basic Samba configation

Start Samba and create a samba user /etc/init.d/smb start smbpasswd -a SomeUser Check if you can access a samba share. Install SerNet Repo to upgrade Samba cd /etc/yum.repo/ wget http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/3.5/centos/5/sernet-samba.repo Upgrade Samba to 3.5.6 yum update samba Restart Samba /etc/init.d/smb restart smbd -V Version 3.5.6
